I read stuff on the Internet; you should, too!

Julia the Writer Girl shares a sweet, heartfelt story about solitude, home, and growing up over on her blog.

Everyone’s reccing this one, but I have to jump on the Colson Whitehead “loser edit” essay bandwagon.

Kameron Hurley offers her tips for creating great book titles.

Modern Hiker has some of the best posts about environmentalism, social engagement, and hiking/mountaineering. I’m loving this piece about Mt. Everest and its trash problem, especially since it gives us non-climbers an outlet to make a difference.

2014 was a rough year for several writers, but Emmie probably had one of the worst stretches – so yesterday’s updates post was a delight to read. Congrats, Emmie!

I read stuff on the Internet; you should, too!

Monica Byrne’s next book sounds like the perfect follow-up novel after The Girl in the Road:

The name of the next novel is The Actual Star.

It is set in and around the cave Actun Tunichil Muknal in the years 1012, 2012, and 3012, following three incarnations of three people.

Read more here. I’ve been a little disappointed in follow-ups lately; it seems like the second novel is either the continuation in a series or falls flat. I have high hopes for this one, given that The Girl in the Road was my book jam of 2014.

If you’re in desperate need of a motivational kick in the pants, this expletive-laden quotation posted by Johann Thorsson may be right up your figurative alley.

I love this list of SFF heroines you should know. It includes some personal favorites from a range of series/books.

WEEKEND READS

Long-time readers will remember a feature that’s fallen by the wayside – Weekend Reads. Previously a Sunday post featuring a single story, this time I’m going to link up to stories I read this week that I loved.

Weapon by Ericka Clay at Tipsy Lit

Southern Framed Joy by Logan Theissen at 1:1000

Where Are You Going? by Mark Killian at 1:1000

Hey, You by Jessica Sita at Tipsy Lit

Special mention goes to Write Club Fight Club, which featured a bunch of killer stories this week! However, I don’t want to link to specific ones to skew the odds in anyone’s favor. So head over and decide which pieces are your favorites 🙂
