I’m throwing my hat in the ring and participating in some reading challenges this year!

The challenge: 2013 Audio Book Challenge
Hosted by: Teresa’s Reading Corner
Challenge overview: Listen to audio books (pretty self-explanatory)
Why?: I discovered I LOVE audio books in late 2011 – I listen while I’m driving and doing chores.
My goal: 24 audio books
The challenge: 2013 Genre Variety Reading Challenge
Hosted by: A Daydreamer’s Thoughts
Challenge overview: Read a variety of different genres throughout the year
Why?: I like variety, and expanding my horizons in 2012 helped me find some amazing authors!
My goal: 12 books from different genres
The challenge: 2013 EBook Challenge
Hosted by: Workaday Reads
Challenge overview: Read ebooks
Why?: I got a Kindle last year, and while I love the heft of a book in my hands, I can’t argue with the convenience the Kindle offers.
My goal: 25 ebooks
The challenge: New Authors Challenge 2013
Hosted by: Literary Escapism
Challenge overview: Read books written by authors whose work you’ve never read before (do not have to be 2013 debut authors)
Why?: This was one of my favorite challenges last year, and I discovered a lot of new authors I’ll be reading again!
My goal: 12 books by new (to me) authors
The challenge: 2013 Book to Movie Challenge
Hosted by: Doing Dewey
Challenge overview: Read books and then see the film adaptations
Why?: I like to have one purely “fun” challenge and I think this will be a great one to add to my repertoire.
My goal: 3 books/movies
The challenge: 2013 Classics Catch-up Challenge
Hosted by: Quirky Bookworm
Challenge overview: Read classics (from the list)
Why?: My classics challenge failed last year, but this list has a few that I’d love to attempt (again).
My goal: 6 classics
The challenge: 2013 Southern Literature Reading Challenge
Hosted by: The Introverted Reader
Challenge overview: Read Southern books – taking place in the South, written by authors from the South, with a Southern vibe
Why?: This was one of my favorite challenges from 2012. Also, full disclosure: I’m Southern.
My goal: 4 Southern books
The challenge: 2013 2nds Challenge
Hosted by: Darlene’s Book Nook
Challenge overview: Read follow-ups by an author you’ve only read once (or the second book in a series)
Why?: I found a bunch of new authors in 2012, so I’d like to revisit some of them!
My goal: 5 second helpings
The challenge: 2013 Banned Books Challenge
Hosted by: Buckling Bookshelves
Challenge overview: Read books off the ALA’s frequently banned books
Why?: A world without Scout Finch is one in which I don’t want to live. Okay, I know she’s a fictional character and technically I’m already living in a world without Scout Finch, but you get what I mean.
My goal: 5 challenged books

Those sound like great ideas! And I have to say, my cat Scout is named for Scout Finch. I love her too!

Hi Justice! I’m very new at hosting challenges and when I chose the image for the Banned Books Challenge button I chose one in the public domain, but inadvertently neglected to provide credit for the image. My new “grab this code” includes it, but I wanted to also provide the credit line to all the challenge participants who have already posted the button as well.

Sorry about that & I hope you’re enjoying your reading selections!

I’m participating in the Banned Books challenge, too. I look forward to reading more about your choices. I reread To Kill a Mockingbird about a year ago as part of the advance work for a writer’s conference where we had a whole session discussing the book.
